Az árvízi hajós „természetes” gyermekei

A reformkor egyik legkiemelkedőbb alakja, Wesselényi Miklós (1796–1850) főként a politikusi tevékenységéről és az irodalmi munkásságáról ismert. Azt azonban igen kevesen tudják, hogy a báró korának egyik legnagyobb „nőfalója” volt. A szeretőivel való viszonyáról elsősorban saját naplójából tudunk, amit több mint 20 éven át, napi gyakorisággal vezetett. Ebben rendszeresen feljegyezte a nőkkel való találkozásait és a szexuális aktusok számát. (Volt olyan, hogy egyszerre több mint tíz lánnyal is testi kapcsolatban állt, és gyakran egy nap alatt többel is szeretkezett.) Nos, ennek a kicsapongó életnek, életmódnak – többek között – az volt az egyik folyamodványa, hogy szeretőitől törvénytelen gyermekei születtek.

A 19. század végétől egészen napjainkig csak néhány olyan monográfia és tanulmány látott napvilágot, amely – igen röviden – említést tesz Wesselényi természetes gyermekeiről. A legfrissebb szakirodalmi forrás szerint „Wesselényi Miklós törvénytelen gyermekeiről több forrás is a rendelkezésünkre áll. Sok egyszeri kalandja miatt valószínűleg ő maga sem tudta pontosan, hány gyermeke lehet.” Az alábbiakban tehát arra a kérdésre próbálok választ találni, hogy az „árvízi hajós”-nak hány gyermeke lehetett, és közülük kik azok, akiket név szerint is azonosítani lehet.

Már a legelején szeretném megjegyezni, hogy a legfrissebb genealógiai szakirodalom szerint Wesselényi Miklósnak a feleségétől, Lux Annától két törvényes fia született. Az igazság azonban az, hogy – a zsibói és pesti református egyházközségek matrikuláinak az adatai szerint – az „árvízi hajósnak” nem két, hanem három törvényes gyermeke volt. Mégpedig a Zsibón 1845. december 13-án született Miklós, az ugyancsak Zsibón 1847. március 11-én született Béla-Pál és a Pesten, 1850. május 16-án – igaz posztumusz – született Heléna.

A korabeli források közül, először barátja, Újfalvi Sándor emlékiratait kell megemlítenem, amelyekben a vadászati szakíró 13 törvénytelen gyermekről beszél. Mint írja, „Függetlensége s szabadsága túlfeszített elhittségiben különböző aljas nőktől tizenhárom fattyú gyermekkel szaporítá a születés által már céltévesztettek számát”. Ez a szám azonban talán túlzás. (Bár ki tudja, semmi sem lehetetlen, ismerve Wesselényi – a naplófeljegyzései szerint is – igen nagy szexuális „étvágyát”.)

A következő említésre méltó kútfők Wesselényi Miklós végrendeletei. A Pesten 1832. április 12-én kelt testamentumában öt – sajnos név nélküli – természetes gyermekéről emlékezik meg. Végakarata szerint „A mi eladandó felkelhetője, a jószágok termése, keresménye stb. összesitett árából – adósságai, tisztei és cselédei kifizetése után – fenmarad, osztassék öt egyenlő részre, s adassék azon három gyermek számára, kiket Galaczon neveltet, és azon egy fiu és leányka részére, kik Zsibón vannak, s a kiket mind Kelemen, mind Nagy Lázárné jól ismernek. Ez öt gyermeknek – úgymond – én adván életet: nevelést, s a mennyire lehet, élelmet is tartozom adni, melyért mindenik ezen öt gyermek közül a maga részére esendő pénznek kamataiból neveltessék, s midőn a fiuk 24 évöket elérik, a lányok pedig vagy férjhez mennek, vagy azon kort elérik, akkor vegyék a tőkepénzt.” A Zsibón, 1848. március 25-én kelt végrendeletében azonban már csak négy – igaz, itt név szerint is megnevezett – törvénytelen gyermekéről tesz említést. Mint írja, „De nőmet, valamint gyermekeimet is ezennel kötelezem ara, hogy természetes kedves gyermekeimnek, ú: m: Wersényi Rósa Reinagel Richardnő ’s Wersényi Kata leányimnak, Wersényi István és Wersényi László fiaimnak mind a’ négynek külön 10 000 = tízezer pengő forintot tartozzék vagy tartozzanak ezüst pénzben – három darab ezüst huszast egy pforintban számítva – halálom után négy év alatt kifizetni”.

A témával kapcsolatos eredeti források sorában a következő, amelyről említést kell tennem, az Wesselényi Miklós 1835 és 1839 között zajlott felségárulási perének a Marosvásárhelyen 1835. március 18-án kelt vádirata. Ebben – sok más vétke mellett – az „erkölcstelen életét” bizonyítandó a következőket fogalmazták meg: „Ugyan a maga jószágbeli jámbor adózó polgár szolgáló embereinek, fiatal, ártatlan, szűz több leányait szűzességekben megrontotta vétkesen, a földesúri fényes tulajdoni jusnak gyalázatos, ocsmány visszaélésével és a köztársaságnak undorodásával megszeplősítette, kiktől élő gyermekei vannak, jelesen törvénytelen élete gyümölcsei. aa) Molnár Borbálától egy fiú és egy leány. bb) Szántó Zsuzsannától egy fiú. cc) Salamon Esztertől egy fiú. dd) Réti Borbálától egy fiú. ee) Daróczi Erzsébettől egy leány. ff) Udvari jágere leányától, Springer Pepitől egy fiú gyermekek.” Summa summarum, Wesselényi Miklósnak 1835-ben – már és még – hét élő gyermeke volt. (Ugyanezen adatokat közli egyébként több, a témát érintő publikáció is.)

Wesselényi útinaplója

Igen fontos dokumentumok még magának, Wesselényi Miklósnak a naplói is, amelyeket már többen górcső alá vettek. Takács Péter egy tanulmányában például – e témában – a következőket fogalmazza meg: „A naplók is visszatérően foglalkoznak a Versényi névre hallgató lányok – Róza és Katalin – neveltetésével. A levelek és a gräfenbergi naplófeljegyzések a fiúk – Károly, István és László – taníttatásával, sorsával is. László és István az 1848 májusától szervezett nemzetőrség, majd a szabadságharc veresége után az osztrák hadsereg kényszersorozása miatt Wesselényi haláláig szinte minden, Nagy Lázár gazdatiszttel váltott levélben szerepelnek. Naponkénti odafigyeléssel kíséri a két felnőtt fia honvédséghez történő beállását. Lovat rendel alájuk méneséből, majd megnyugszik gyalogsági szolgálatukban. Izgul értük a szabadságharc elvesztését követően. Gazdatisztjeit, barátait, az osztrák hadseregben szolgáló katonatiszt ismerőseit környékezi meg, hogy beszéljék rá mindkettejüket a sorkatonai szolgálatra.” Priszlinger Zoltán 2008-ban megjelent publikáció­jában pedig – többek között – azt írja, hogy a naplók alapján hét nevet tudott azonosítani, és így, „Katica, Rózsi, Ilka, Ádám, Pista, Károly, Laci nevű törvénytelen lányait és fiait ismerjük név szerint”. (Közülük Ilka és Ádám gyermekként halt meg, mivel – mint azt a naplójában olvashatjuk – 1838-ban, amikor hazaszökött Zsibóra, felkereste két gyermeke, a „szegény kis Ádámom és a kedves Ilka sírját”.) Továbbá azt is Priszlinger kutatásaiból tudjuk, hogy a „törvénytelen gyermekeinek anyjai: Molnár Borbála (»MB«), Szántó Zsuzsanna (»SzS«), Réti Borbála (»RB«), Salamon Eszter (»E« ?), Daróczi Erzsébet és Springer Pepi” voltak.

Végezetül szeretnék még röviden szót ejteni Wesselényi Mikós törvénytelen gyermekeinek a vezetéknevéről, azaz a Versényi – vagy másképpen Wersényi – családnévről, amelynek eredetéről az „árvízi hajósnak”, Kelemen Benjámin jószágigazgatójával folyatott levelezéséből szerezhetünk közelebbi információkat. Wesselényi 1835. szeptember 6-án, Kelemennek szóló levelében ugyanis a következőket írja: „Gyermekeimnek név kell, nem lehetnek mint az agárkölykök a hány annyi név alatt. Ha a törvény nem ad is szegényeknek nevet, azért gondosságom s szeretetem kell hogy azt tegye. Nem adhatom nekik a magamét, de adom egy részét, s igy az első szó-tagot elhagyván, nevök lehetne: Elényi. De tán Wessényi jobban hangzana. Írja meg édes Kelemen e tárgyról véleményét. Szükséges, hogy ezentúl történjék, a mi eddig nem történt, hogy adassék tudtul a gyermekeknek, hogy én apjok vagyok, a nélkül nem fejlődhetik bennök irántam gyermeki szeretet, pedig attól várom napjaim derültségét.” Úgy látszik, Kelemen Benjámin véleménye az volt, hogy a szóban forgó utóbbi névhez tétessen egy „r” betűt és az legyen Wersényi. Ezen felvetésre Wesselényi Miklós egy, 1835. szeptember 25-én kelt levelében azt válaszolta, hogy az ajánlott „Wersényi” név jó és azonnal megvalósítandó. 1835. december 6-án pedig már azt közli Kelemennel, hogy „A gyermekeknek ezennel uj esztendei ajándékul adom a »Wersényi« nevet. Viseljék Ők s maradékuk becsülettel.” Summa summarum 1836. január 1-től „beszélhetünk” a Versényi, Wersényi családnévről.

Lássuk tehát, hogy a fentebb idézett kútfők és publikációk, valamint a zsibói református matrikulák, illetve egyéb levéltári és kézirattári források tanúsága szerint kik voltak bizonyosan – igaz nem DNS teszttel bizonyítottan – Wesselényi Miklós törvénytelen gyermekei és milyen életrajzi adatokkal rendelkezünk róluk:

1. Versényi Rozália

„Rósália Szerentse Leán” született – a zsibói református egyház keresztelési matrikuláiban található bejegyzés tanúsága szerint – „Molnár Bori” törvénytelen lányaként, Zsibón, majd megkeresztelték ugyanott 1824. szeptember 26-án. A zsibói református anyakönyvbe 1848. február 5-én bevezetett „Anya Könyvi Megigazítás”-ból pedig megtudhatjuk azt is, hogy „1824ben Sept[ember] 26án Kereszteltetett Molnár Borbálának B[áró] Wesselenyi Miklos Urtol Ön elösmerete szerént természetes Leánya Rozália – Wersényi vezeték névvel.”

„Fräulein Rosa Wersenyi” (Wersényi Róza kisasszony), „Nikolaus Versenyi, Gutsbesitzer zu Zsibó in Siebenbürgen” (Versényi Miklós [!] zsibói, erdélyi földbirtokos) 21 éves, zsibói születésű, református felekezetű „eheliche Tochter” (törvényes lánya [!]) – a császári-királyi 39. gyalogezred esketési matrikuláiban található német nyelvű bejegyzés tanúsága szerint – házasságot kötött Pesten, 1847. február 11-én Richard Rainagel cs. kir. alhadnaggyal.

Meghalt – testvére, Versényi Károly gyászjelentése szerint – 1887 után.

2. Versényi Károly

„Zab Fiu Károly” született – a zsibói református egyház keresztelési matrikuláiban található bejegyzés tanúsága szerint – „Molnár Borbála” törvénytelen fiaként, Zsibón, majd megkeresztelték ugyanott, 1826. április 6-án.

Házasságot kötött – a gyászjelentése szerint – 1851 és 1852 között borosjenői Korda Annával.

„Versényi Károly díjnok a megyei Kir. törvényszéknél” meghalt – a zilahi református egyház halotti anyakönyveiben található bejegyzés tanúsága szerint – 61 éves korában, szívszélhűdés következtében, Zilahon, a Tuhutum utca 21. szám alatt, 1884. január 23-án. A gyászjelenéséből pedig megtudhatjuk azt is, hogy „Idősb Versényi Károly, zilahi kir. törvényszéki tisztviselő és 1848/49-iki honvédhadnagy” délután 4 órakor, élete 61. évében, házasságának 36. évében halálozott el és a temetésére a zilahi köztemetőben, 1887. január 25-én került sor.

3. Versényi Katalin

„Fattyú Szántó Kata” született – a zsibói református egyház keresztelési matrikuláiban található bejegyzés tanúsága szerint – „Szántó Susánna” lányaként, Zsibón, majd megkeresztelték ugyanott, 1827. január 28-án. A zsibói református anyakönyvbe, 1848. február 5-én bevezetett „Anya Könyvi Megigazítás”-ból pedig megtudhatjuk azt is, hogy „1827ben Janu[ar] 28an Kereszteltetett Szanto Susánnának B[áró] Wesselenyi Miklos Urtol Ön elösmerése szerént természetes Leánya Katalin – Wersényi vezeték névvel.”

Meghalt – egy osztrák forráskiadvány adatai szerint – 1863 után.

4. Versényi István

„Törvényetlen István” született – a zsibói református egyház keresztelési matrikuláiban található bejegyzés tanúsága szerint – [Salamon Terézia] törvényetlen fiaként, Zsibón, majd megkeresztelték ugyanott, 1829. május 5-én. A zsibói református anyakönyvbe, 1848. február 5-én bevezetett „Anya Könyvi Megigazítás”-ból pedig megtudhatjuk azt is, hogy „1829ben Majus 5en Kereszteltetett Salamon Théréziának B[áró] Wesselenyi Miklos Urtol Ön elösmerete szerént természetes fia István – Wersényi vezeték névvel.”

Házasságot kötött – testvérei, Versényi László és Versényi Károly gyászjelentése szerint – egy ismeretlen személlyel.

Meghalt – testvére, Versényi Károly gyászjelentése szerint – 1887 után.

5. Versényi László

„László” született – a zsibói református egyház keresztelési matrikuláiban található bejegyzés tanúsága szerint – „Réti Borbála” törvényetlen fiaként, Zsibón, majd megkeresztelték ugyanott, 1831. augusztus 28-án. A zsibói református anyakönyvbe, 1848. február 5-én bevezetett „Anya Könyvi Megigazítás”-ból pedig megtudhatjuk azt is, hogy „1831ben August[us] 28án Kereszteltetett Rétyi Borbálának B[áró] Wesselenyi Miklos Urtol Ön el osmerete szerént természetes fia László – Wersényi vezeték névvel.”

Házasságot kötött – a gyászjelentése szerint – 1861 és 1862 között rettegi Viski (Visky) Borbálával.

„Versényi László, 1848/49-iki honvéd, nyug. megyei és királyi tisztviselő” – a gyászjelentésének tanúsága szerint – meghalt Szamosújlakon, 1884. augusztus 10-én, délelőtt 8 órakor, élete 54. évében, házasságának 23. évében, majd eltemették a szamosújlaki temetőben, 1884. augusztus 12-én került sor.

6. Springer Ádám

„Springer Ádám” született – a zsibói református egyház keresztelési matrikuláiban található bejegyzés tanúsága szerint – „Springer Josefa” törvényetlen fiaként, Zsibón, 1834. március 1-én, majd megkeresztelték ugyanott, 1834. március 2-án.

„Springer Josefa Fia Ádám” – a zsibói református egyház halotti anyakönyveiben található bejegyzés tanúsága szerint – meghalt három éves korában, himlő következtében, Zsibón, 1837. január 19-én, majd eltemették ugyanott.

7. Daróczi Ilona

„Darotzi Héléna” született – a zsibói református egyház keresztelési matrikuláiban található bejegyzés tanúsága szerint – „Darotzi Erzsébeth” törvénytelen lányaként, Zsibón, majd megkeresztelték ugyanott, 1834. december 22-én.

„Darotzi Erzsébeth Leánya Ilona” – a zsibói református egyház halotti anyakönyveiben található bejegyzés tanúsága szerint – meghalt két éves és egy hónapos korában, himlő következtében, Zsibón, 1837. január 18-án, majd eltemették ugyanott.
